Côte d'Azur: Nice, Monaco and Cannes

On Friday I took SN Brussels flight 3617 from Brussels to Nice (South of France). At 4pm, I had an appointment with Maureen and Nicolas, a couple which I met via Couchsurfing.com They showed me around in 'Vieux Nice' and introduced me to the local kitchen. Later that day, I met Pedro, Barry and Salvatore at the fountain near 'Palais de Justice'. Pedro, also a Couchsurfing.com member, invited me to hangout with his friends. We checked some local pubs, of which Liqwid was the coolest. Expensive drinks, but a nice interior, an excellent DJ and the best looking girls in town. We only made one mistake, we had wine at dinner, beer at the pub and Vodka-Cola at the Liquid bar... a deadly mix, at least for Barry and Salvatore. I was lucky to have kept my ritual alive of drinking a liter of water before going to bed after a heavy night out, so I was doing fairly well on Saturday morning. Pedro was brave enough to join me for a trip to Monaco, a tiny little independent state known for it's incredibly rich inhabitants. During the last weekend of May, the Grand Prix Formula 1 takes place in the public streets of Monte Carlo. The track was already in full construction, so we could enjoy driving the steep curves with our rental car. Monte Carlo Casino, the place where the richest Monacans show off and a perfect place to spot the latest Ferrari's, Lamborghinis, Aston Martin's and other fancy toys. We had a cappuccino at the terrace of Café de Paris with a great view on the entrance of the Casino. After half an hour the table next to me attracted my attention, I took me only a few second to realise we were joined by Belgium's top favorite sport personality, Tom Boonen. I had never expected to have such an exciting time in Monaco! On Sunday, Barry and Salvatore joined me and Pedro for a trip to Cannes, a city which lives of it's world famous Film Festival which is opening this week. We checked the harbor full of luxury yachts, made a long walk on the promenade along the beach and had a drink at one of the beach bars. Check the pictures of Nice, Monaco and Cannes here.
